How to dodge USA laws?

Traditionally, companies have had one responsibility: to make a profit. But the concept of corporate social responsibility holds that companies should be responsible for more than just their owners. Corporate social responsibility holds that multiple dimensions should affect a company's actions (Scilly, n.d). The concept of "corporate social responsibility" has become pervasive enough that it has earned its acronym in business circles: CSR. The term means that a corporation should be accountable to a community, as well as to shareholders, for its actions and operations. When a corporation adopts a CSR policy, it aims to demonstrate a goal of upholding ethical values, as well as respecting people, communities and the environment. Kielmas (2018). However, corporate social responsibilities come from ethical obligations, including acting responsibly and being accountable to the stakeholders of an organization, including employees, and practicing full disclosure. When shuld a corporation move to Mexico?

The utilitarian approach to ethics postulate that when there is a course of action to be taken among a number of actions, the one with the utmost good or least harm should be adopted. By this, I would say a corporation should not engage in such a practice. If this is done, it just means that the corporation would want the benefits of the use of DDT but does not necessarily mind the environmental effects the use can have on Mexico. Ideally, an alternative pesticide should be used. The full meaning of DDT is Dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane. This is a powerful insecticide, effective upon contact: its use is restricted by law due to damaging environmental effects (Webster's New World College Dictionary, 2010). Low to moderate exposure of DDT may result in nausea, diarrhoea, irritation of eyes, nose or throat while higher doses can lead to tremors and convulsions (Leatherman, 1997). After extensive use of DDT on soil, soil loses an extent of potency. DDT also has devastating e...

What ethical duties does the corporation have to the workers in Mexico?

Facts, values, and arguments are three principle parts of business ethics according to  the textbook  Business Ethics (2012). Today we  will look at another ethical question and argue  the pros and cons regarding the production and distribution of an agent banned for use in  the  U.S. but not in the rest of the world. That agent is DDT or Dichloro-diphenyl- trichlorothane,  Known for being a highly effective  insecticide. Let’s talk about DDT.                 DDT was manufactured in 1874 and established as an effective insecticide in 1942 according to Danley (2002). The author described  General Douglas MacArthur’s frustration with his troops contracting malaria in World War II. In 1943 the Allies intensively tested one  thousand pounds of DDT with remarkable success and Danley said purchases of DDT soared to three million pounds by 1945. The success  of this pesti...

How to evade a ban?

1. Corporations should not migrate to other countries to buy land in order to evade the ban. In general terms, this behavior and example of DDT use in Mexico  is causing damage to     the   Ecosystem that is defined as "composed of living and nonliving elements, it's a web of balanced interactions allowing the continuation of each element (Business Ethics,2012,p.707) . Corporations thinking in profits framed in the concept:   the end justifies the means ,  justifies the lack of social responsibility. 2. Corporation should protect the ecosystem showing its Corporate Social Responsibility towards all kind of workers, Americans, Mexicans etc. The potential danger of the pesticide should be communicated to all the stakeholders and community in general. Corporations should have the sustainability model (Business Ethics,2012,p.731) protecting both persons, animals and environment. 3. In all sense, corporations that manufacture DDT ...

Ethics and Environmental Concerns

“Environmental ethics is a branch of ethics that studies the relation of human beings and the environment and how ethics play a role in this. Environmental ethics believe that humans are a part of society as well as other living creatures, which includes plants and animals. These items are a very important part of the world and are considered to be a functional part of human life. Thus, it is essential that every human being respect and honor this and use morals and ethics when dealing with these creatures.”  (Rinkesh, 2018, para. 1). To answer the first question, we will say DDT have been banned in the United States because, after studies, they are harmful to human health and the environment. From what is said above, buying land in Mexico, importing US DDT, growing larger crops, and exporting elsewhere just as in the United States should be discouraged. Today, several harvests made with pesticides are being exported to poor and developing countries, putting the fu...

Should a corporation buy land in Mexico, import DDT from the USA, grow larger crops, and export them to the USA?

Introduction In this discussion post, I consider how businesses ought to act in the absence of explicitly documented regulations. The issues addressed here include corporate social responsibility as well as moral accountability. Along certain ethical theories, it makes sense to approve for the corporation to buy land in Mexico, import DDT from the US, grow larger crops, and then export it to the US. A utilitarian approach – an ethical theory that affirms that right acts are those that maximize utility or happiness ( Bentham, 1996 ) – closely aligns with this. Approaching it from a cost-benefit angle will mean that it reduces the cost of production for the corporation; it provides jobs for the local residence in Mexico and reduces the cost of sales back in the US (Strain, 2018). However, calculating what may be considered ultimate utility or the actual cost-benefit is quite difficult especially since the aim is to see if it outweighs the negative consequences of environmental po...
