Comparison between two retail companies picked are Walmart and Costco

The two retail companies picked are Walmart and Costco whose 2017 Financial statement links are provided below: WALMART https://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/ wmt/financials?query=income- statement COSTCO https://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/ cost/financials?query=income- statement Both organizations are well known brands and position themselves well with their customer base. Walmart’s value proposition is “We save people money so they can live better”. On the other hand, Costco’s value proposition is “All-in-one convenience and everyday affordability”. Both retailers focus on cost saving for their customers. Looking at their financial statements and by analyzing them a few key areas are evident when comparing the two organization. Looking at the current ratio and quick ratio we can determine the short-term solvency of each organization. The current ratio can be determined by dividing the assets by the liabilities. Walmart’s current ratio sits at 0.86 while Costco’s sits at 0.99. The quick ratio is c

How to influence as a trainer?

Give an example: Recently I proposed and launched an internal training about company’s financial system and new tax policies. Especially focus on invoice management and business-related new policies. I think this action first gained the support from the upper echelon and then called out all staff participate in. It literally was a successful attempt.  China has been currently under the tax reform. Business tax which existed for 68 years retired formally from the stage of history. We are entering into an era of the overall add-value tax and under scrutiny of tax "big data" .Because of the implementation of the tax reform less than 2 years, the new tax policies are being introduced continually, and our knowledge should catch up with accordingly. So this training was just imperative. The goals are to mitigate the workload of financial department and improve the understanding of company operation. A time when my behavior was influenced: During the training, some staff asked

How to influence someone as an instructor?

A couple of months ago, while I was sitting in on a class, the instructor was asked a question that had already been asked. The instructor made a comment toward the student that I felt was particularly unprofessional and I could tell the students were a bit shocked. A few minutes after that event, we took a break and the instructor left the room to make a phone call. I noticed that the student was a shocked but more importantly, his co-worker was mad. Realizing that something was about to happen, I approached both of them and told them if they thought that particular comment was out of place, I agree and I promised to remedy the situation. I explained that the people in our office had gone through a tragic event, recently and that I don’t think he meant it the way it sounded. I also had heard other instructors for whom he had mentored, make the same mistake. Seeing that we had a culture issue and not just a problem with one individual instructor, I realized I needed to talk to Human

Influencing someone at work

Hello everyone, When I think of someone I have influenced recently, I instantly think of my significant other. We both rely on each other daily not only as a couple, but as best friends. We are very supportive of one another in all of our endeavors both as individuals and as a couple. The influence we have on each other is substantial in our day-to-day routines, both of which consist of work, school, and other personal commitments. Most recently, I assisted my significant other in searching for and attaining a new place of employment as her previous job closed operations. I had to provide motivation and support to her, as it is not easy to lose a job, especially when it is not your fault. My significant other prides herself in her work as as a veterinary technician. Her passion and love for animals reaches beyond anything I've ever seen before. I'm really proud of her accomplishments and I wish to see more from her. The form of influence I used to motivate her to pursue othe

Work experience

n my position at work, I have an influence on the upward, downward, and the lateral organizational levels. I am in an organization where my direct supervisor only knows my job description but not what that description entails. Additionally, the lateral and downward chains are similar, but there are technical differences. Furthermore, coercive power, which is the fear of punishment or the loss of some valued outcome, is something that I am against because it destroys socialization and organizational culture (Crossman & Hardesty, 2017). Consequently, I ensured that I never communicated in a coercive manner.           I was the senior editor of a weekly publication that was published both internally and externally. I had ideas on the different content that should be included in the magazine. I presented my ideas to all three tiers because they will influence the entire organization. My subordinates were all for the new direction, and so were my peers. However, it was a challen

When an American company exports goods back to the USa?

INTRODUCTION         Environmental ethics is concerned about entire ecosystems or regions or with smaller units such as species, individual non-human animals or plants, or landscape features such as mountains or forest. (Kibert et al, 2012). One business response to concerns about the environment is to express corporate responsibility to make the business a seat of economic and   ethical decisions. (Business Ethics,2012). A company demonstrates its respect for the environmental ethics through corporate social responsibility. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) may be defined as the actions of an organization that are targeted toward achieving a social benefit over and above maximizing profits for its shareholders and meeting all its legal obligations. CSR for global organizations can also involve the demonstration of care and concern for local communities and indigenous populations. (Ghillyer, n.d).   DISCUSSION         The Case of DDT was invented in 1873, and has been known

How Moving to Mexico can help an organization?

-   Voting with the feet is an expression that demonstrates an individual's preference through his or her actions by voluntarily choosing to participate in or withdrawing from an activity, group, or process; especially, moving to a situation one sees as more helpful. With regards to doing business where costs are minimal and revenues highest, business companies will take an interest since that is surely going to be gainful. Under this circumstance they will choose to vote with their feet since that will optimize their business operations.Business organizations, however, will love to buy at a lower price and sell at a higher price to maximize their profits. The ban on DDT makes farming very costly because of the expansion in the effects of insects on crops Business Ethics (2012). This therefore, makes the food we eat more expensive. A corporation that is hoping to maximize its profits will choose to grow their crops in a country were DDT is allowed for use in agricultur

How to dodge USA laws?

Traditionally, companies have had one responsibility: to make a profit. But the concept of corporate social responsibility holds that companies should be responsible for more than just their owners. Corporate social responsibility holds that multiple dimensions should affect a company's actions (Scilly, n.d). The concept of "corporate social responsibility" has become pervasive enough that it has earned its acronym in business circles: CSR. The term means that a corporation should be accountable to a community, as well as to shareholders, for its actions and operations. When a corporation adopts a CSR policy, it aims to demonstrate a goal of upholding ethical values, as well as respecting people, communities and the environment. Kielmas (2018). However, corporate social responsibilities come from ethical obligations, including acting responsibly and being accountable to the stakeholders of an organization, including employees, and practicing full disclosure. When shuld a corporation move to Mexico?

The utilitarian approach to ethics postulate that when there is a course of action to be taken among a number of actions, the one with the utmost good or least harm should be adopted. By this, I would say a corporation should not engage in such a practice. If this is done, it just means that the corporation would want the benefits of the use of DDT but does not necessarily mind the environmental effects the use can have on Mexico. Ideally, an alternative pesticide should be used. The full meaning of DDT is Dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane. This is a powerful insecticide, effective upon contact: its use is restricted by law due to damaging environmental effects (Webster's New World College Dictionary, 2010). Low to moderate exposure of DDT may result in nausea, diarrhoea, irritation of eyes, nose or throat while higher doses can lead to tremors and convulsions (Leatherman, 1997). After extensive use of DDT on soil, soil loses an extent of potency. DDT also has devastating e

What ethical duties does the corporation have to the workers in Mexico?

Facts, values, and arguments are three principle parts of business ethics according to  the textbook  Business Ethics (2012). Today we  will look at another ethical question and argue  the pros and cons regarding the production and distribution of an agent banned for use in  the  U.S. but not in the rest of the world. That agent is DDT or Dichloro-diphenyl- trichlorothane,  Known for being a highly effective  insecticide. Let’s talk about DDT.                 DDT was manufactured in 1874 and established as an effective insecticide in 1942 according to Danley (2002). The author described  General Douglas MacArthur’s frustration with his troops contracting malaria in World War II. In 1943 the Allies intensively tested one  thousand pounds of DDT with remarkable success and Danley said purchases of DDT soared to three million pounds by 1945. The success  of this pesticide was threefold.                According to Danley, DDT has three significant characteristics:
